DARK GAIA'S PROFILE

I develop games and I write. I have a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing and journalism. I like writing speculative fiction, horror and literary fiction, sometimes all blended together. You can find elements of my writing in my games, because I consider my games to be stories just that happen to have gameplay.

I post updates on my Facebook and Twitter:

Mythos: The Beginning

No worries! I'm hoping to begin beta testing some time in August.

Mythos: The Beginning

@kartersaint: It wasn't really intended to be "big" at first, just a short game for the Indie Game Maker Contest. It's only after noticing how many people were excited by the game concept that I decided to withdraw it and expand it into a fully fledged game.

@macblo: No need for a PM. I've added you to the list :)

Development Update #2: Progression

@macblo: That's an idea, too. Right now there are multiple endings, and the game is subtly different depending on your character's strengths and weaknesses (a bit like how Legionwood 2 changes with player choices), but it is traditional for survival horror games to have an unlockable sub-game. That said, after thinking about it I'm not too worried about the length. Each recent episode of Telltale's The Walking Dead is about 1 hour long, and I've had to pay full price for each one!

@shadowman: Not to mention that there will be additional clues and story details you'll miss depending on your character's specialisations. You'll have to play several times to see every single thing. I kind of agree with you in that I'd rather re-play a 6 hour game than an epic length RPG.

@calvinchun: Thanks! My hope is that fans of both One Night and Legionwood will like it.

Development Update #2: Progression

I just want to try and make the game feel like it is worth the money I'll be charging for it. If people think $5.99 for a 6 hour game is reasonable, then I feel a little bit better.

One Night Review

Thanks for the detailed and balanced review! The two sequels are definitely much better than this game, but there's still something about it that I never felt I managed to replicate in One Night 2 or 3.

One Night 4 is on the way, but it's... changed somewhat. It's now called Mythos: The Beginning and is more of a spiritual successor to the series than an actual sequel.

On First Projects

To be honest, I think everyone tries to make that epic game right from the outset. I know I did... and I failed horribly. That game was absolute garbage.

Legionwood: Tale Of The Two Swords

I'm probably too late to respond to your question, but the Scavenger Hunt treasures are present on the world map from the start. It's actually possible to find all of them before talking to the quest giver (he'll just give you the reward right then and there).

I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and I'll take a look at Crebt. Haven't heard of anyone crashing there before.

Legionwood: Tale Of The Two Swords

Okay, so I understand there's been a bit of confusion. There are actually two versions of Legionwood floating around.

The first one is the version included in the Free Game Bundle. This is the "original" version -- the last version of the game before the DLC pack came out, and this is the one in which the Ascog bug occurs. This one is just the base game, and doesn't have the DLC installed.

The second one is the version available here, the Deluxe Edition, which incorporates the DLC and the main game in one download (the DLC was originally separate, which is why that link doesn't work anymore). In this version, the Ascog bug is fixed because the offending music track has been replaced. There is a "1.2 Update" available for this version which fixes a bug in the DLC quest. If you plan to play through the Deluxe Edition, you should definitely grab it.

If you'd rather fix your existing game save from the "original" version, you can fix the Ascog bug by copying the Deluxe Version's Audio folder into the "original" version's directory, which will replace the music track.

EDIT: As for the quitting RPG Maker thing, it's true that I want to take a long break from it to work on my second novel, but despite myself, I'm still making games. Legionwood 2 was my first commercial game, and Mythos: The Beginning -- a horror themed RPG based on 1930s monster movies -- is in production currently. It was originally meant to be a short game made for the 2014 Indie Game Making Contest, but I decided to withdraw so I could expand the game into a proper commercial release.

Mythos: The Beginning

Hey everyone. Just letting you know that Mythos is coming together nicely, and I'm going to be putting out a call for beta testers soon. If you'd like to be considered as a beta tester (which means you get to play the game before it comes out, and you get a FREE copy when it's released), please inquire via PM.

Legionwood: Tale Of The Two Swords

This error seems to be occurring because the Quest Journal is not present in old saves, which breaks the game in certain places.

The best thing you can do is go back to the original version. Have you tried muting the volume when you enter that area? Or, if you'd like to use the fix from the DLC in the original game, you can copy and paste the Audio folder from the Deluxe Edition into the original game -- this will replace the music track in Ascog Castle with the one used in the Deluxe Edition, which should fix it.

Unfortunately you'll miss out on the DLC content, such as the extra story content and all the bonus quests, but you can at least continue your game.
